Before your shoot

before you lifestyle newborn shoot

so you made it home with the baby.  the photographer is set and coming and you look around and realize that it looks like a hospital threw up in your home.  not to mention your crazy toddler has completely torn the house up and the dishes sitting in the sink that used to bother you now sit there with crusty fruit loops and cheese hanging off the side.  and you don’t care. you go try on clothes because you want to look somewhat presentable when the photographer comes but of course nothing fits and if you have to wear those bloody maternity pants again you. will. die.

here is a list of things to remember for you shoot

relax. the house does not have to be perfect. in fact I usually take the first 10 minutes reorganizing your rooms and picking up for you. in your head you will think...”wow decorator/maid and photographer I am definitely getting my moneys worth”
please keep in  mind that I may utilize every room. so the guest room that you shove everything into and close the door behind you well,  might have the best light in the house and I may end up using it

now your wardrobe. listen I am not one to tell you all to go change if you decide to wear all black..(well, I may if you wear all black) but please keep in mind that you want your photo’s to be timeless...so I know you love leopard and foofy bows on your tiny baby and I will take some for you of course ( hello I am paying this lady and she is telling ME how to dress) please don’t be offended when I strip jr. down to his birthday suit.

feeding. throw your schedule out the door for the day and have your boobs and bottles ready...also make sure you have paci’s. and no I promise they will not get addicted.

grandma and grandpa...I know they love the new baby and trust me nana you will get plenty of time to see the babe  =) but please try and keep the guest list to just you, your spouse and siblings.

i hope this covers most of your questions. the most important thing is to be yourself and don’t worry I won’t judge you if you have poopy diapers sitting out ( at least not out loud ) =)))))

before your portrait session

lets start with wardrobe.  gone are the days of matchy matchy la la la. now let me clarify. its okay  to match. as in same color scheme. so different shades of neon or neutrals looks fantastic.  try and mix it up a bit...step out of the box. =)

location. now I pair wardrobe and location in the same box. so if we are doing a lifestyle shoot at home ...think about how you dress on a day to day. you can add a little spice to that. dressing to the 9's works if your house is decked out...but if you live in a eclectic quilt unmatched home then you would want to dress more down to earth. maybe you want an open field. I would not dress fancy for an open field.

the he hasn't napped today speech. its cool. I have never left a session once and thought wow we didn't get any pictures. and believe it or not. sometimes I really love the no smile faced pictures the best.

relax.  I promise you will be blown away by the amount of pictures I actually end up getting. its what I do.
